Samsung updates the Galaxy S10 series with One UI 2.5 and September 2020 patches

The Samsung Galaxy S10 series debuted in 2019 with the first generation One UI skin based on Android 9 Pie. A few months later, the smartphone lineup received its first major Android OS update in the form of One UI 2.0 on top of Android 10. The Korean OEM subsequently delivered an incremental update of One UI 2.1 for these phones which brought in several software features from the Galaxy S20. Continuing the pattern, the company has now started rolling out the One UI 2.5 update to the Samsung Galaxy S10 that tags along a plethora of Galaxy Note 20-specific functionalities.

The One UI 2.5 OTA for the Galaxy S10 family of phones is currently rolling out to users in Germany. The firmware version is G97xFXXU8DTH7, which is meant for the international variants powered by the Exynos 9820 SoC. The changelog itself is quite large, due to the fact that the update bundles a handful of new features like Wireless DeX and an enhanced Pro Video mode. Samsung has also been able to ship the September 2020 Android security patches through this update.

The bootloader version, however, isn’t incremented in this update. As a result, experienced users can have the freedom to perform a manual downgrade to the previous One UI 2.1-based firmware with bootloader version 8, but we would still advise caution before doing so.

In case you haven’t received the update on your device yet, you can download it using tools like Frija which grabs the firmware packages directly from Samsung’s Firmware Update Server. It’s worth mentioning that the aforementioned builds are not at all compatible with the Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S10 variants sold in the U.S., thus cross-flashing is a no-go.

As mentioned earlier, the update is currently only available to users in Germany, but Samsung is going to roll out the same in more European countries as well as other regions in the coming days. FYI, the Galaxy S20 series and the 4G variant of the Galaxy Z Flip have already received the One UI 2.5 update from Samsung, and we expect the Galaxy Note 10/Note 10+ are the next candidates.
