Motorola starts releasing the Android 10 stable update for the Moto G7 Power

Motorola’s Moto G7 series launched in 2019 with a close-to-stock version of Android 9 Pie out-of-the-box. The company kicked off its Android 10 update rollout for the G7 lineup with the Moto G7 Plus in January this year. The regular variant of the Moto G7 then went on to grab the Android 10 OTA in the month of May. And now, owners of the Motorola G7 Power in Brazil have started receiving the stable Android 10 update.

Motorola has a huge consumer base in the Brazilian market, which is why the OEM prefers to conduct “soak tests” (AKA beta tests) of upcoming major Android version updates among the users of this Latin American country. The Moto G7 Power’s Android 10 update is not an exception to this as the company actually rolled out the final soak test/beta build as the stable update in Brazil. The software version of the current build is QPO30.52-29, and the included Android security patch level (SPL) is April 2020.

According to Motorola Brazil’s official Twitter handle, the company is following a staggered rollout model for this release. The statement seems true because their regional update tracker is still not showing anything about the arrival of the Android 10 update for the Moto G7 Power. The update is expected to make its way to other regions in the coming weeks, although the build number may differ across countries and/or carriers. One can technically cross-flash the Brazillian Android 10 firmware on a different regional variant, though we would still advise caution as this could cause problems.

Note that Motorola has yet to update its kernel source code repo corresponding to the Moto G7 Power (code-name: “ocean”). Existing custom ROMs, as well as the official TWRP build for this device, are built on top of the old Android 9 Pie-based source code, thus there might be some incompatibility issues with the new Android 10 firmware.
